School Roof Repairs, Replacement & Flat Roofing Across Shropshire, Staffordshire & Cheshire

J Hamer Roofing provides professional roofing services for schools and educational buildings across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire. From roof repairs and maintenance to complete flat roof replacement, we can provide practical, long-lasting roofing solutions while working around the needs of the school.

Roofing work on a school requires more than simply fixing the roof. Safety, access, timing and disruption all need careful consideration.

Where appropriate, work can be scheduled during school holidays to minimise disruption to pupils and staff, with the necessary planning and documentation completed before work begins.

Whether you are dealing with a leaking or deteriorating school roof, failing felt or GRP, poor insulation or a flat roof approaching the end of its useful life, speak to J Hamer Roofing about the options available.

Recent Fatra School Roofing Project in Shrewsbury

Fatra Insulated Warm Roof Installation

A recent project in Shrewsbury involved the replacement of a failing flat roof on a school building.

The existing felt and GRP roofing had begun to fail, making replacement the appropriate long-term solution.

J Hamer Roofing stripped the existing roof covering and re-boarded the roof before installing a new insulated warm roof system. New fascias were fitted and the roof was completed using a Fatra membrane system with the associated trims and flashings.

Our works included:

Removal of the failing felt and GRP roof coverings

Re-boarding of the roof

Installation of a new insulated warm roof

New fascias

Fatra roofing membrane

New trims and flashings

Detailing and finishing of the complete roof system

All work was completed during the school holidays, allowing the roofing project to be undertaken while pupils were away from the site.

A Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) was also completed for the project, setting out how the work would be undertaken safely and the risks associated with the work managed.

This is an important consideration when carrying out roofing work on schools and other occupied educational premises.

20-Year Fatra Guarantee

The new roof benefits from Fatra’s standard 20-year product guarantee, providing the school with long-term reassurance following the roof replacement.

Fatra single-ply membranes are BBA certified, with the system having an assessed service life in excess of 30 years when correctly installed and maintained.

Fatra roofing systems also have an established track record on schools and other educational buildings.

Common School Roofing Problems

If an ageing school roof requires frequent repairs, replacement may prove more economical over the longer term. A modern insulated Fatra warm roof can combine improved insulation with a durable, low-maintenance waterproofing system.

Leaking Flat Roofs

Leaks can develop because of ageing membranes, damaged coverings, failed joints and flashings, drainage problems or previous repairs. Early investigation can help prevent water penetration causing more extensive damage to the roof structure and interior of the building.

Ageing Felt or GRP Roofs

Older school buildings and extensions can have flat roofing materials which have deteriorated over many years. There comes a point where continued patch repairs offer diminishing value compared with replacement.

Poor Roof Insulation

Older roofs may have significantly less insulation than would be expected from a modern roof construction. When replacing the waterproofing system, it may be possible to incorporate improved insulation within a warm-roof build-up.

Fascias, Flashings and Roof Details

The main roof covering isn’t the only potential source of problems. Fascias, flashings, roof edges, penetrations and other details all need to work together to create an effective weatherproof system.

Reduce maintenance and improve Roof insulation

An ageing school roof can become a cycle of leaks, temporary repairs and ongoing maintenance costs.

Where replacement is the better long-term option, an insulated warm roof can improve thermal performance while providing a durable new waterproof covering.

School Roofing Planned Around Your Needs

Roofing work on an educational building needs to take account of the people using the site as well as the condition of the roof. Careful planning can help minimise disruption and allow essential roofing work to be completed at an appropriate time.

Our recent Shrewsbury school project was completed during the school holidays, allowing the old roof to be stripped and the new insulated Fatra roofing system installed while pupils were away from the site.

Before the work commenced, a Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) was completed covering the planned work and how identified risks would be managed.

For schools considering roofing work, we can inspect the existing roof, discuss the problems you are experiencing and recommend an appropriate repair or replacement solution.

From localised repairs to complete insulated flat roof replacement, the aim is to provide a durable solution appropriate to the building and its ongoing use.

Why Schools Choose J Hamer Roofing

Work planned around school holidays

Where possible, larger roofing projects can be scheduled around school holidays to help minimise disruption to pupils, teaching staff and the normal operation of the school. Our recent Shrewsbury flat roof replacement was successfully completed during the holiday period.

R.A.M.S. completed

School roofing requires careful consideration of site safety, access and how the work will be carried out. A Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) can be completed where required, setting out the planned work, identified risks and the measures used to manage them.

Insulated warm roof options

Replacing an ageing flat roof can also provide an opportunity to improve its thermal performance. An insulated warm roof system combines insulation with a new waterproof roof covering, providing a long-term solution rather than continuing with repeated repairs to an ageing roof.

Fatra Flat Roof with 20 Year guarantee

We install Fatra single-ply membrane roofing systems, including insulated warm roofs such as the system recently installed at the Shrewsbury school. Fatra provides a standard 20-year product guarantee, offering long-term reassurance following installation.
